I Got the BLUES!!!...Nail polishes, that is.

I LOVE getting my nails done. Very girly, I know, but it is a completely necessary evil to
me. Necessary, because to me getting mani's and pedi's are like getting a new set of hands and feet every week, and are essential to staying groomed. Like getting your eyebrows waxed or threaded, and keeping the "forest" from running wild in the Vikki Secrets. But, painting your fingers and toes can seem evil, especially when you have to wait for them to dry. As a good friend of mine once told me, "You're only helpless when your nails are wet". True, very true:)
But it hurts my heart to admit that as a college student on a semi-tight budget, I can't quite indulge in the weekly pampering sessions that I used to. But that's cool with me because before I became a regular in the nail shops, I did my own nails, which I still love doing whenever I get a chance which over the summer, has been about once or twice a week. Yeah. So if you come over my house, you might leave high off of acetone fumes. Just saying. But as much as I love doing my own nails, one of the best parts is is going hunting for all of the perfect colors and name brands on sale. And because of this, I probably have as many bottles of polish as I do pairs of earrings. I have a problem...Spazz! But in my defense, as much as I do my own nails, plus the fact that I always bring my own colors along when I get them buffed up at the salon, I basically get my money's worth two times over. So that's totally justifiable, right???!!! -_-
Anywho... I decided that on one of the few chill days that I have left before I have to pack up and hightail it back to the Ponderosa, I would give myself a pedicure, which never fails to pass the time and relax me. Not to mention it saves me money, and lets me experiment with different designs and color mixtures which I have become quite a beast at as of late. But back to the main deal. I just wanted to share this beautiful, vibrant summer color that I chose for this week which, came out very nicely.
I picked up this bad boy from Urban Outfitters of all places. I say that because I usually wouldn't but something like nail polish from there because though I love them, they do tend to carry some items that are WAY too overpriced for what they are, but I gave it a go. This particular polish usually costs $5, but it was buy one get one 1/2 off, and I'm a girl that knows a good thing when she sees it, so in my bag it went! I must say, I'm glad I gave Urban Outfitters polish a chance because I absolutely adore this color!!!!

It's called "Crowded", but I personally would have dubbed it "Robin Eggs" or "Baby Boy Blue", because that's what I think of when I look at it. This color is so rich, light, and fresh, and is perfect for the summer season and your favorite sandals. It also reminds me of cool summer days. You know, those perfect ones where the sky is about this same hue of blue with a thick dusting of clouds that partially shade the sun so while it's still bright out, it's cool and comfortable. Those are the kinds of summer days I like. Not these current daily-record-breaking, 104-and-above-for-ten-days-straight, disrespectful summer days like the kind we've had here in Saint Louis! I mean, you walk outside for two seconds, the heat just gives you a quick Chris Brown to face before it suffocates you real quick. UGH!
But anyway, go to Urban Outfitters and pick this up! You won't regret dipping into that rainy day fund for this one:) But if you think you will, go out to you local beauty supply store or wherever you like to buy your nail polishes and see if you can find a cheaper color that matches it.
I also wanted to talk about another blue fave of mine that is the perfect color for the season to come. I picked it up while digging through my polish box, and knew I had to share it with ya. The brand is called L.A. Girl Black Light Nail Polish, Disco Brights, and this particular color is called "Calypso Blue". I've had this color for about a year and a half now, and it is one of my favorites for fall. I have looked high and low, but have yet to find this same brand or exact color anywhere, which kind of makes me cry little dove tears:( So until I do, I have to ration out how much I use it so that baby will last for the colder months when I rock her the most!

I got this great color for 99 cents at my local beauty supply store. Buying cheap polishes from the beauty supply store always make me a little nervous. While I am good at finding great polishes with vibrant colors and thick, rich textures for really cheap at places like this, sometimes I swing and miss and wind up with a pretty color that has a thin and watered down-like texture, which pisses me off for reasons that I'm sure a lot of ladies understand. For those of you that don't, let's go to school quickly. *deep breath*...OK.
When the texture of a polish is thin and watery, that means that it will go on your nails the same way. So not only will it be extremely runny, sloppy, and damn near transparent, but you'll also find yourself having to put on two, three, maybe even four f***ing coats just to get it to the desired consistency that you want on your nails. And that's not even including the base coat which is a must, and the top coat which is essential for setting the polish and giving it that shiny professional look. So with all of those coats that you have now slabbed on your nails, you have tripled your drying time, and even after you think it's dry, it may still stick and smudge! And don't even get me started on when you think you nails are dry because it's been like, oh idk, 12 flippin' hours, so you put on closed-toe shoes, only to take them off and see your polish has smeared down half your nail!! Pure Armageddon. Thank God for nail polish strips with digital prints. If you can't tell, this has happened to me before. Touchy subject. But this particular discount polish is the perfect texture and consistency so none of the above has happened, and just one even coat will do ya! Praise the Lawd!
Another added bonus is that it goes perfectly with the darker and softer colors of the 2012 Fall Fashion Season. If you keep up with the latest fashion trends like I do, or know about the top color schemes for specific seasons, then you know that blue is the main highlighted color for fall. Yup. If you look at any reputable high fashion mag or website, they'll say that the blue hue is one of the main templates that should be used and expanded on when you're picking out you favorite shoes, handbags, light sweaters, scarves, and jackets for the season. But not just any shade. They really mean those darker, richer, less summery shades of blue like this one. Not like the baby blue above. That's why I love my "Calypso Blue" because it goes great with the traditional soft and dark browns, oranges, burgundies, and blacks that I love wearing during this time.
So when you're getting your fingers and toes in sync with the rest of your autumn decor, think about a blue like this one. It's dark without being Gothic black, it goes with everything, and the blue tint pops like hell in the light. Oh you FANCY, huh???

**What are your favorite, go-to nail colors for any of the seasons? If you have a favorite color you think I should try, or designs that you've tried that are absolutely gorge, comment below and let me know!!

Sidenote: Shout out to Paris Jackson and the photo shrine that she made in remembrance of her father MJ!! I absolutely love it, and no Yahoo!, it is NOT obsessive -_-. And Miss Paris has skills! She drew the main black and white drawing of Michael right above her bed. And she said she did it in only three hours! It looks just like him. Not bad for a 14-year-old I must say!
