Sparkle Addict:)

     Clicking away at this computer won't even begin to show how EXCITED and totally freakin'
AMPED I am about the highly anticipated premiere of Sparkle THIS Friday!!! Not even punching caps all damn day can help me truly get my point across. Sparkle has always been one of my favorite movies. It is a true classic, and ever since I first saw the original 1976 version with my Mommy dearest when I was just a snaggle tooth gal in a training bra, it has always been on my list of top 10 musicals. Right below RENT, and above Dreamgirls (HEEYY BEY!!). So my mother and I decided to prepare ourselves for the new Sparkle by watching the old one together in the comfort of our living room.

 

     I always love watching movies and hanging out with my mom, especially now since I only have four more full days before I have to go back to Purdue for round two. My mom is more excited to see Sparkle than I am. One, because of Whitney Houston, enough said, and two, because she remembers going to the movies to see the original Sparkle back in the day when she was my age, and it has always been one of her favorite movies. And if you've ever seen the original, you'll know why. Though it was made in a somewhat low-budget fashion (since they didn't spend much to make movies back then), and the ending gave the impression of a part two which never came, the story line is great and the music is phenomenal. Every single song, music composition and lyrics, was written by the one and only Curtis Mayfield, a true legend. And then of course you have Irene Cara, Miss Fame herself playing Sparkle, which really showcased her talent.
     I think that they picked the perfect girl to play Sparkle the second time around too. I've always loved Jordin Sparks. Her voice is amazing, and I've just been waiting for her to get that really big break where she can show all of her talents and blow the hell up, and this movie just might do it for her. If the trailers that I have seen for the movie are any indication, she might be walking down that red carpet praying for golden globes, and chiseled, naked man awards:) Here's the link for the movie trailer:

     AHHH!! I can't wait!! I don't think that they'll make it exactly like the original movie, so I really want to see what they'll keep out and add on to revamp it for the 2012. I already have a good idea by the previews who will be playing Sparkle, Sister, Effie, Delores, Stix, and that damn pimp that gave Sister the business, but who the hell is Cee-Lo gonna play? I can't think of which original character he'll be, so did they create a new one??? hhmmmm.... I will definitely be finding out in FOUR days!! I've already used my AMC Stubs card to purchase my tickets. Yeah, I'm that serious. No bootlegging here!! Now the ony thing I have to do is pray I don't bust any sobs when I see Whitney on that big screen one last time. Bittersweet:)
